Comic #33: Waking Up Late

Comic #33: Waking Up Late published on No Comments on Comic #33: Waking Up Late

This happened to me a couple times during my undergrad years at SCAD. You’d think I would have started remembering to check my email prior to each class.

On the plus side, suddenly having a free morning is always nice!

Note: The color version of this page was briefly delayed due to family plans during the Easter holiday weekend, and will be uploaded as soon as it’s completed.

Ex Libris really was this intimidating the first time I visited it. The place is actually split into FOUR separate floors on the inside, with each floor dedicated to either textbooks or art supplies. To save time (and the sanity of having to search for everything yourself) most professors would send the store a list of required materials for their classes, and you could just ask for a box of pre-sorted supplies at the counter upstairs. You’d end up carrying a whole armful of boxes home, but you’d save yourself at least an hour of searching.

Many thanks to the following folks on the Peterverse Discord who contributed their characters to this comic for cameos: KirbyCanvas, Userpay, Arron, StarKitt3n, MoonlitCaitlyn, Malydude, ItsTheTroon, MrPopo, and TsutheBookGuru. One of the easiest traps to fall into when you first start diving into comics and cartooning is the seductive loop of character creation. When I first started drawing the earliest versions of Peter & Company back in late high school, it was a nonsensical comic strip filled with 30+ characters, the vast majority of which were one-dimensional and only ever appeared in a handful of strips (if at all). And the comic itself was not given an autobiographical story until the “Guardian” reboot in 2005.

As for what form Peter’s first comic projects will take (and what he will base them on), we will see in time!

Many thanks to MaeHyme, Bakertoons, ItsTheTroon, and Riastylis for offering their characters up for the cameos on this page! Lately we’ve been handling all of our free cameo spots through the Peterverse Discord server, so if you would like to have a chance to offer a character up for a spot on a future page, come join the community!

Comic #280: Brother Bob

Rob is a character we’ve wanted to introduce into the comic for quite some time now. He will play a much more prominent role in Peter & Whitney, but for now he just does what every big brother does: make snide comments about every aspect of his little sister’s life.

On a side note, we’ve completely revamped both of our Patreons to now feature regular weekly updates every Friday with regular content starting on March 1st. Please consider pledging to get bonus content and support the series!

Color Theory class was mostly fun, but it had its share of tedious assignments. This one in particular I had to deal with during undergrad, and it required using an entire package of 4″ square colored papers to cut various scraps and arrange them to match the colors in a photo.

At least it isn’t as bad as the dreaded pointillism project, which somehow I managed to get through undergrad without having to do. Dodged a bullet with that one.

A big thanks to Mihari and KingChaotixX7 for offering their characters for quick cameos on this page!

Whitney’s mom seems to have the same sassy streak. Now we see where Whitney gets it from.

So yes, welcome back to the comic, everyone! This is the first page to be posted since Whitney and I celebrated the birth of our daughter Marlena in December. After taking a few months off to get accustomed to our new lives as parents, we have found our groove and are getting these stories moving again. Expect updates on both comics to resume, as well as an increase in additional content on the Patreon.

In reality, this wasn’t how I got back at my roommate for pulling this stunt, but it’s certainly refreshing to see Peter pulling it off.

Also, to those not familiar with SCAD lingo, Ex Libris is the name of the campus bookstore and art supply shop. I knew I wouldn’t be able to tell a story that takes place at the college without eventually having to show it, so it looks like we’ll be getting our first glimpse of it soon.

On a side note (and reposting this same message from the latest update to P&C), Whitney and I would like to apologize for the sudden two-month hiatus both comics have been on lately. For those who don’t follow us on social media, we are preparing for the arrival of our baby daughter in December, and part of that involved turning the old art room into a nursery and bringing all of our art/computer supplies into a new dedicated space (which involved wallpaper stripping, repainting, and moving some pretty heavy furniture).

With the new room complete, we have finally resumed production on the comics again, and have resumed our art streams on Picarto! Be sure to follow our Stream page or watch us on Twitter if you would like to be notified when the streams go live throughout each week.

And now, introducing the newest character who will play a prominent role in the Peterverse comics: Whitney’s mom!
